Interesting Saturday
***Please note, the names in the following article have been changed due to the delicate nature of this report.Saturday morning my sister, who shall be known as "Clyde" called me, ("Bonnie") and asked if I wanted to help her move some articles out of a house. I should explain that this house belongs to a friend who had just recently moved out but"Clyde" had a few belongings there that she needed to get moved out, so I said I would help even though I had big plans for the day, (drink coffee, read the paper, etc....)After a couple stops at sales we arrived at the house. "Clyde" had the keys and we entered the house, "Clyde" immediately went to the Security system and punched in the numbers, we proceeded to pack up when a brain-numbing alarm went off, at the same time the phone rang. We thought it was probably the Company calling and we could tell them that it was all a mistake, but no one answered. Finally the alarm shut off and we went on with our work. I was stationed outside, putting stuff in the car while "Clyde" was inside packing, when to my surprise 2 police cars pulled up and 3 policemen approached and asked what was going on. "Clyde" explained the situation but they looked in the car and checked her license plate which came up "BAD" because she had just recently purchased the get-away car and it came up as plates belonging on a Ford Explorer. So any hoo after some more questioning and investigation,we were cuffed and put in lock-up, oops, I'm sorry, that last part is not true, I just get carried away with my stories! I have the utmost repect for police officers and others that are there to serve and protect BUT, if this had been a real robbery in progress, the perps ( that is legalese for "Bad Guys") would have had time to load up all the silver, jewelry, electronic equipment, the urn with great-aunt Emma's remains and the family dog and been out of state before the cops got there. Their response time left a little to be desired. Also if this had been a home invasion situation where the "Perps" had intended bodily harm to the occupants, the cops would have got there in time to only identify the victims. So if you have a home security alarm system, don't rely on immediate help! Wishing you good sleep tonight! "Bonnie"
Three Million!
In yesterday's paper there was an article about a woman who embezzled 3 Million Dollars from an investment firm where she worked, okay, she is in a tad bit of trouble for that alone BUT the IRS is after her for not paying taxes on the money she embezzled! Now my mind is going in a million directions (3 million to be exact) Do they actually have tax forms for Ill-Gotten Gains? For occupation would she write in Self-Employed Embezzler? What about her estimate for her next year's income? Could she claim some deductions? Did she donate to worth-while charities, did she tithe at her church? (which I am sure she attended regularly, except for the Sunday when the sermon was on the commandment, "Thou Shall Not Steal")What about Medical expenses? I'm sure she was suffering from lack of conscience, hard-heartedness (she stole from clients who trusted her) She must have also been delusional(thought she wouldn't get found out) Can she now claim her lawyer as a business expense? Perhaps she could have come up with enough deductions to have gotten an Income Tax Refund! The article went on to say that she had used some of the money to put in an indoor basketballcourt and an indoor underground swimming pool! Didn't family, friends, neighbors, ANYONE notice that she was living beyond her means?Remember back when I was ranting about the Salvation Army Thrift Store, (known by us "in the know", as "Sally Ann's Boutique") Well, I was there yesterday and there was a glass lamp, not unlike what you would get at Wal-Mart in the 15-20 dollar range, BUT they claimed it was a TIFFANY lamp!!! and had a price tag of $65 on it!!!! It was obviously NOT a Tiffany lamp and if it was, would you sell it for $65?? Also I would like to meet the person who would just donate a Tiffany lamp to the Salvation Army! It was just sitting on an open shelf with a lot of other "stuff".Heaven forbid someone would accidently break this priceless "Objet D'Art"Also there was a comforter priced at $120.00, if I had $120 burning a hole in my pocket and I was in the market for a comforter, the Salvation Army would probably not be the first place I would go. I would like to get a job there just so I could get in their back room and get a look at the person or persons who do the pricing, I'm sure it must be a committee.
